Anita White
Anita White is a bay area based photographer. She moved a lot throughout her life, so though she was born in Paris, she resides in California now. She did not start studying photography until later in her life, after she had a child. She went to school to get her MFA at the Academy of Art University. Her work is significant to me because it is very unique. Her work, specifically her series “Absent” was significant as I was deciding what to do for my final project. Her use of bodies really influenced me because another work of bodies is what I wanted to do right away, so I thought of her after I had seen her in one of the exemplars on the class website. I love the idea of showing bodies without necessarily identifying the person or showing the face, because it removes the provocative or sexualized thoughts that may first be brought up when viewing the nude body, and makes them into something beautiful and unique. It takes away the identity and makes the body into a beautiful landscape.
